About Capoeira Gran Bwa

Our History

Capoeira was created by enslaved Africans in Brazil in the 1500s who were forbidden from practicing fighting.  As a result, Capoeira was disguised as a song and dance, which evolved into a dynamic martial art discipline.

Capoeira is traditionally practiced by two players, or "Capoeiristas" who who perform a series of acrobatic attacks and evasions within the circle ("roda"). The dance-like combat is accompanied by participants who clap, sing and play instruments such as the  "berimbaus", drum, tambourine and "agogô". Hence, the practicing develops the ability to defend and attack in innovative and efficient ways.

About Capoeira Gran Bwa

Capoeira Gran Bwa is committed to practicing, promoting and upholding the culture of Capoeira through teaching, workshops and creating venues for the Capoeira to flourish. While there are varied styles, we practice a combination of traditional and contemporary under Mestre Fera

Capoeira Instruction

Adults and children starting at the age of 4 may join Capoeira trainings. Our Capoeira classes offer a full body workout that combines martial art fitness, dance, rhythm and a lot of playfulness. Students learn the basic attack and defense techniques while building strength, stamina and flexibility.
